第74曲目 Shining On
第74曲目は、The House of Loveの「Shining On」です。収録は1993年発表の4thアルバム「Audience with the Mind」。

本曲収録のアルバム「Audience with the Mind」は一部音楽誌に「特徴がなく陰鬱」と評されるなど、トップ40に入ったのも１週のみで、シングルカットも１曲もありませんでした。映像としてチープなのはそのためです。

本作「Audience with the Mind」発表後にバンドは解散。ボーカリストでありバンドのフロントマンのガイ・チャドウィックは鬱や体調不良と闘いながら、新たなバンドをいくつか結成しながら音楽活動を続けました。（2003年にバンドは再結成）
歌詞は普段掲載していないのですが、本曲は紹介してみます。

歌詞的には、死の幻影の中、灯火がゆらめく、という構図でしょうか。その後のチャドウィックの苦悩を暗示しているようにも思えますが、希望というか、ポジティブなエネルギーも漂っています。
彼らのデビューシングルかつ（ハウス・オブ・ラブの）最高のヒットソングが「Shine On」という曲名なのに加え、Grand Funk Railroadの有名曲「Shinin On」とも被ってしまって、完全に世に埋もれてしまった感のある曲ですが、個人的には素晴らしい楽曲（隠れ名曲）だと思います。
